NIA searches Saokat Molla’s home and party office, son questioned in Bhangar blast case
Allegations of irregularities in the Diamond Harbour–Falta electoral process have intensified after a report submitted by Election Commission special observer Subrata Gupta reportedly highlighted serious concerns over CCTV surveillance at several polling stations. The findings have triggered fresh scrutiny over the transparency of the voting process in the constituency.
According to sources, the report claims that CCTV cameras at multiple booths were switched off during the morning hours of polling day. It further notes that around 1 pm, the presiding officer attributed the lack of footage to the “removal of tape,” by which time nearly 58 percent of voting had already been completed, raising questions about monitoring and accountability during the process.
Despite the submission of the report, the Election Commission has not taken any final decision on the Falta election, leading to growing uncertainty in political circles. The delay has intensified speculation over possible corrective measures, including further examination of booth-level records and surveillance data.
Sources indicate that multiple options are under consideration, including a possible repoll before counting and, in exceptional circumstances, even after results if substantial doubts persist over the fairness of the process. The situation remains under close review as authorities assess the findings before arriving at a final decision.
