Falta TMC office vandalised after Jahangir Khan ‘Pushpa’ arrest triggers public anger

Public anger erupted in Falta on Monday morning following the arrest of Trinamool Congress leader Jahangir Khan, popularly known as “Pushpa,” by Special Task Force personnel near the India–Nepal border. Shortly after the news of his arrest reached the area, a group of local residents allegedly vandalised a Trinamool Congress party office linked to him, damaging furniture, documents and other materials.

According to reports, residents gathered outside the party office and broke open its locks before entering the premises. Inside, tables, chairs and other furniture were allegedly damaged, while documents and party materials were scattered. Protesters also claimed that bundles of flags and other materials were stored inside the office at the time of the incident.

Jahangir Khan was arrested earlier on Monday near the India–Nepal border, where he had allegedly been absconding since the Falta by-election on May 21. Sources stated that he had been under search by investigators for several weeks and was believed to be staying in a rented house in the border region along with his family members.

Following the arrest, tensions escalated in Falta, where Jahangir Khan’s party office was reportedly targeted by residents. According to accounts from the area, the situation led to further unrest as the premises were searched and damaged. Authorities are continuing to examine both the circumstances surrounding his arrest and the subsequent vandalism at the office.
