Family in Meerut accuses police of planting gun, shares CCTV footage as evidence

A family in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has raised allegations against local police officials, accusing them of planting a gun on their son and subsequently arresting him. The incident has gained widespread attention after the family shared CCTV footage supporting their claims on social media.

The controversy revolves around Ashok Tyagi, a resident currently embroiled in a land dispute case. According to his wife, Rakhi Tyagi, police arrested their son Ankit, on September 26, alleging that they had planted an illegal weapon on him.

CCTV footage released by the Tyagi family appears to show a group of police officers entering a house, with one of them placing an object in a parked motorcycle. Later, another group of officers arrive and retrieve the pistol from the motorcycle, claiming it as a discovery.

Rakhi  claims that the motorcycle belongs to her husband and accuses the police of conspiring with the opposing party in the land dispute to plant the weapon. She also alleges that the police are attempting to seize the CCTV footage.

Meerut Superintendent of Police Dehat Kamlesh Bahadur has assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the matter, with a commitment to addressing any wrongdoing within the bounds of the law. He stated that the police received information about a pistol being stored in a motorcycle, which prompted their visit to the location. Bahadur acknowledged the viral video and confirmed that it would be subject to a comprehensive inquiry. The two constables involved in the incident have been identified and are currently undergoing questioning.
