Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
A tragic incident linked to a love relationship and family opposition was reported from the Mominpur area under Matia police station in North 24 Parganas on Monday. A young man and a young woman, who were in a long-term relationship, allegedly died by suicide, plunging both families into grief and shock.
Police identified the deceased as Farooq Gazi (24), a tailor by profession, and Karima Khatun (20). According to investigators, the two had been in a relationship for nearly five years after first connecting through mobile phone conversations. Over time, the relationship deepened and the couple decided to get married.
While Farooq’s family had agreed to the marriage, Karima’s family reportedly opposed the relationship. The opposition was largely due to differences in the families’ economic backgrounds. Despite several attempts by Farooq’s family to resolve the issue through discussions, no consent could be secured.
Local sources said that on Sunday night, Farooq informed Karima over the phone about his decision to end his life. In the early hours of Monday, police recovered their bodies hanging in separate rooms of their respective homes. Police believe Karima took the extreme step after learning about Farooq’s death, and an investigation is underway.
