College security guard held over Kolkata student's alleged gang-rape case; 4th arrest so far
A tragic incident unfolded in Hooghly district as a 37-year-old farmer, Tarun Parui, allegedly committed suicide on Friday following the destruction of his eight bigha paddy crop due to unseasonal rains in West Bengal. The incident occurred in the Pilkhan area under Khanakul police station.
Tarun, who had cultivated paddy on a significant portion of land, faced substantial losses when unseasonal rains wreaked havoc on his farm, resulting in the ruin of his entire crop. Despite not having taken government loans, Tarun had incurred personal debts for farming, and the distress of losing his livelihood to untimely rains led him to take his own life by hanging.
Police are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
