In Kabar Bahiyar area of Ekamba Panchayat, Chhaurahi block, Bihar, farmers are facing challenges related to their agricultural electricity connections. The Prime Minister Agricultural Irrigation Scheme aimed to provide electricity to farmers' fields through separate agricultural feeders for irrigation purposes. However, farmers in this region have encountered issues where their electricity lines have been disconnected, and they are receiving inflated electricity bills, causing significant distress.
One farmer, Anish Kumar, highlighted the problem in his area, where a three-phase agriculture meter was installed as part of the irrigation scheme. Despite the electricity line being disconnected for the past three months and no usage of electricity for irrigation due to excessive rains causing crop damage, the meter readings for September and October were significantly high, resulting in an electricity bill of over three thousand rupees.
Farmers are now left with the dilemma of paying these bills or facing fines if not deposited by October 31st. The situation has led some farmers to consider disconnecting their connections in frustration, raising concerns about the accuracy of meter readings and the handling of agricultural electricity connections in the region.
