In a concerning development, the future of thousands of students hangs in the balance as it was revealed that their school, St. Augustine's Day School in Kolkata, lacks proper recognition. The Calcutta High Court has stepped in after serious allegations surfaced against the private school, blocking the registration of around 500 students just before their board exams.
The High Court's investigation uncovered that the building housing St. Augustine's Day School on Ripon Street does not possess a completion certificate. Expressing its displeasure, the Court ordered an immediate probe and reprimanded the school authorities.
Justice Biswajit Bose emphasized that private schools cannot escape governmental responsibility. Earlier, the school acknowledged its lack of legal status during a court hearing, sparking outrage from the judge, who criticized the school for involving students in protests and urged the registration of an FIR.
Each member of the School Management Committee has been summoned to court, and the judge appointed lawyer Bilbadal Bhattacharya as a special officer to assess the situation at the school. The case will return to court on September 21 after further examination.
