A father and daughter riding a bike were gravely injured after being struck by a speeding dumper in the Shilpinagar area of Raiganj city on Friday. The accident led to public outrage, culminating in the angry mob setting the dumper on fire.
Eyewitnesses reported that the dumper, lacking a number plate, was en route to Malda when it collided with a slow-moving bike in front of it. The collision caused the father and daughter to fall off their bike, leaving them severely injured. Locals immediately rushed to their aid and transported them to Raiganj Medical College and Hospital, where both are currently undergoing treatment. The father's condition is reported to be critical.
Following the accident, enraged residents took matters into their own hands by setting the dumper ablaze. The fire drew immediate attention, prompting the Raiganj police to rush to the scene and summon fire brigade services. After considerable efforts, the fire was extinguished, and law enforcement officers worked to calm the agitated crowd.
The police assured the residents that traffic measures in the Shilpinagar area would be improved starting the next day to prevent such accidents. Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched to trace the owner and driver of the dumper, who fled the scene.
