A woman doctor working at a government hospital in Maharashtra’s Satara district was found dead in a hotel room late Thursday night, in what police believe to be a case of suicide. The 28-year-old doctor, originally from Beed district, left behind a chilling note written on her palm accusing two police officers of rape and mental harassment.
In her note, the doctor alleged that Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane repeatedly raped her over the last five months, while another police personnel, Prashant Bankar, mentally harassed her. Police have registered a case under charges of rape and abetment to suicide and have suspended one of the accused officers. Satara SP Tushar Doshi confirmed that teams have been deployed to trace and arrest the accused.
The case has sparked outrage across Maharashtra. Women’s Commission chief Rupali Chakankar said strict action would be taken, while opposition leader Vijay Wadettiwar accused the ruling Mahayuti government of shielding police personnel involved in such crimes. BJP MLC Chitra Wagh also stated that the accused will be arrested soon and assured that the government is monitoring the investigation closely.
The tragic incident has reignited debates over police accountability and women’s safety in Maharashtra, with political leaders demanding immediate and transparent action against those responsible.
