Female SFI leader accuses senior leader of obscene proposals, resigns

A female Students' Federation of India (SFI) leader from the organization's South Dumdum-3 regional committee has resigned and filed a formal complaint against a senior male member. The woman has accused the SFI state committee member of making repeated "obscene proposals," leading her to take the drastic step of resigning from her post. The incident has brought serious allegations of harassment and power abuse within the student body to the forefront.

According to the written complaint submitted to the SFI's top leadership, the accused male leader allegedly used his position to repeatedly pressure her into compromising situations. The woman claims he frequently asked her to drink alcohol with him alone and suggested that they go to a vacant flat in the Dumdum Cantonment area. These proposals created a persistent environment of discomfort and fear for the young woman, who was left with no option but to seek recourse.

The complaint details other disturbing allegations, including repeated suggestions that they travel and stay together. The accused leader is also alleged to have engaged in "dirty talk" to make her uncomfortable, and made sexually suggestive proposals under the guise of casual conversation. The seriousness of the matter escalated when he reportedly threatened to frame another male member of the organization in a false molestation case, adding a layer of intimidation to his behavior.

The woman leader claimed in her complaint that she had initially brought the matter to the attention of the highest SFI leadership in North 24 Parganas, but no action was taken at that time. This inaction forced her to go a step further and submit a formal written complaint to the state leadership, hoping to ensure the accused is held accountable for his actions and to protect other female members from similar incidents.

Following the formal complaint, SFI State Secretary Debanjan Dey acknowledged that he has received the complaint and confirmed that the organization has initiated the necessary procedures. Dey stated that they have spoken with the young woman and asserted that the SFI has a zero-tolerance policy for such incidents. However, he did not specify what concrete action, if any, has been taken against the accused leader at this time.
