In a recent development, the Chauparan police have taken action against 20 beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) following an application filed by Chauparan BDO Premchand Sinha. The beneficiaries are accused of embezzling government funds meant for the construction of houses under the scheme. The FIR has been registered under sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), houses were sanctioned for the entitled beneficiaries, with each house estimated to cost Rs 1,30,000. The beneficiaries received the first installment of Rs 40,000 to initiate the construction process. However, investigations revealed that the funds were misappropriated, and the intended houses were never built.
Despite repeated notices from the BDO, the construction work was never initiated, prompting the authorities to take legal action against the beneficiaries. With the FIR lodged on Wednesday, the accused individuals now face potential legal consequences for their actions.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) is a crucial government scheme aimed at providing affordable housing to eligible beneficiaries. Instances of embezzlement and misuse of funds are not only a breach of trust but also hinder the progress of initiatives meant to uplift disadvantaged sections of society.
Local authorities are determined to take stringent action against those found guilty of embezzlement to ensure the proper implementation of welfare schemes.
