FIR against Aprarupa Poddar for pushing a cop during NIA raid
An FIR has been registered against former Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Aparupa Poddar for allegedly assaulting a law enforcement officer. The incident reportedly transpired at her residence in Hooghly district's Rishra during a high-stakes early morning raid conducted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Following the official registration of the complaint, the Serampore Police Station has issued a formal summons directing the former Lok Sabha MP to appear before investigators tomorrow for questioning.
The alteration occurred while central agency officials, accompanied by Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel, were executing a search warrant that culminated in the arrest of her husband, Sakir Ali. Ali, a sitting TMC councillor representing Ward No. 4 of the Rishra Municipality, was taken into custody by the NIA for his alleged involvement and role in provoking communal violence during the 2023 Ram Navami processions in Rishra. Local authorities stated that as the central teams moved to detain and arrest her husband, Poddar allegedly obstructed the official procedures and physically shoved an on-duty police officer.
Local police units intervened to restore order at the scene as crowds began gathering outside the residence following news of the high-profile arrest. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the case against Poddar has been formally recorded under relevant sections governing the obstruction and assault of a public servant executing lawful duties. While the central agency has shifted Sakir Ali to their custody for deeper interrogation regarding the conspiracy trail, regional police are preparing to record Poddar's formal statement at the station tomorrow.
