FIR against Kunal, Dola for blocking road to measure Martyrs' Day stage spot

The political battle over the iconic July 21 Martyrs' Day rally venue took a sharp legal turn as the Hare Street police station registered a formal First Information Report (FIR) against three prominent "Kalighat Trinamool" leaders. The police action names senior leaders Kunal Ghosh, Dola Sen, and Vaishwanar Chatterjee for unauthorized assembly, disrupting public transport, and causing severe inconvenience to commuters. According to law enforcement sources, the three leaders spearheaded an unvetted gathering outside Victoria House on Sunday afternoon to measure the ground and pave the way for stage construction, effectively choking a major traffic artery during peak hours.

The FIR specifically states that the TMC leaders blocked the vital thoroughfare from 2:50 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, June 28. The local police authorities have already issued official legal notices to Ghosh, Sen, and Chatterjee, demanding a formal explanation for initiating structural measurements on a public road without prior administration clearances. This legal roadblock adds to a mounting heap of complications for Mamata Banerjee's faction, which is already battling a parallel petition in the Calcutta High Court that challenges the decades-old tradition of blocking central Kolkata roads for political rallies.

The brewing street controversy quickly echoed inside the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Monday, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari taking sharp, sarcastic digs at the fragmented opposition. Adhikari pointed out that while one faction of the Trinamool Congress claims to be the "real" party, the other has effectively reduced itself to "lampposts." The Chief Minister mocked their internal desperation to capture the Esplanade turf, questioning why they chose to harass regular commuters with arbitrary road blockades instead of shifting their massive annual gathering safely to the expansive Brigade Parade Ground.
