FIR filed against Kesari Chapter 2 for ‘distorting facts’ on Bengal revolutionaries

An FIR has been filed against the film Kesari Chapter 2, currently streaming on Jio Hotstar, for allegedly distorting historical facts about Bengal’s freedom fighters. The complaint was lodged by Ranajit Biswas, a resident of Bidhannagar South, Kolkata, who claimed that the film misrepresented revolutionaries Khudiram Bose and Barindra Kumar Ghosh.

According to Biswas, a courtroom scene in the film refers to Khudiram Bose and Barindra Kumar Ghosh as “Khudiram Singh” and “Birendra Kumar,” portraying them as residents of Amritsar instead of Bengal. He termed the depiction a “deliberate insult” to Bengal’s iconic revolutionaries and said it spreads false information, potentially leading to regional and linguistic tensions.

The complaint, filed at the local police station, alleges violations under sections 352, 353(1)(c), and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertain to intentional insult, public mischief, and spreading false information. Police confirmed that a case has been registered and the matter is under investigation.

The film, starring Akshay Kumar and R. Madhavan, has already drawn social media criticism for its inaccuracies. Historians and cultural groups have also raised concerns about the growing trend of historical distortion in commercial cinema.
