BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
A fire broke out at the Globsyn Crystal Building in Salt Lake Sector V on Friday afternoon, triggering panic and prompting a swift evacuation of the high-rise that houses offices of multinational companies and restaurants. A woman employee fell ill after inhaling smoke and was rescued and sent to hospital. Three fire engines reached the spot and worked to bring the blaze under control.
The incident occurred around 3:00 to 3:30 pm when security personnel asked people to vacate the upper floors. Employees rushed downstairs in panic and found thick black smoke filling the building before moving outside as a precaution.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire reportedly started at a restaurant inside the building and later spread through the high-rise. The exact cause of the blaze remains unclear. Fire department officials have launched an investigation and are examining whether adequate fire safety measures were in place.
Police from the Electronics Complex Police Station under the Bidhannagar Commissionerate also reached the scene. The incident comes weeks after a devastating fire in Anandapur’s Nazirabad area claimed 27 lives, heightening concerns over fire safety compliance in commercial establishments.
