A massive fire broke out in Basanti Devi Colony’s Gul Field, Ward Number 36 of Bidhannagar Pourni village on Monday evening. According to reports, a house was completely gutted, and fire engines were rushed to the scene to control the blaze.
Local sources indicate that the fire originated from the puja ghar during the offering of Dhunuchi (a traditional incense offering made during puja). The flames spread rapidly, engulfing the structure before the fire brigade could intervene. Thick black smoke filled the area, causing panic among the residents.
Eyewitnesses stated that the fire escalated within minutes, forcing nearby families to evacuate their homes. As soon as the flames were noticed, locals attempted to douse the fire using buckets of water, but the intensity was beyond their control.
Two fire engines arrived promptly and worked to contain the blaze. Firefighters battled the flames for over an hour before bringing the situation under control. The cause of the fire is suspected to be a Dhunuchi offering during puja, but authorities are conducting further investigations. No casualties have been reported so far, but the affected family has suffered significant property loss.
