Panic struck the BS Road area of Malda city early Tuesday morning when smoke was spotted coming from a multi-storey gold shop around 7 AM. Locals quickly raised the alarm, leading to a surge of concern in the neighborhood. Fortunately, a fire engine arrived promptly, and the fire was contained before it could spread further.
The cause of the fire is believed to be a short circuit in the shop's air conditioning system. Thankfully, the damage was minimal, and a major accident was averted.
The proximity of several other shops and a multi-storied residential building above the gold shop heightened the tension, but timely intervention prevented a potentially disastrous situation.
Residents expressed relief as the fire was brought under control quickly, avoiding further destruction.
