A massive fire broke out in a garage in the Arupota area near EM Bypass on Saturday morning, destroying several parked vehicles. Thick black smoke rising from the site triggered panic among locals. Fire department officials rushed to the spot after receiving an alert at 11:08 AM.
According to eyewitnesses, flames quickly spread through the garage, setting 10-12 vehicles on fire. Residents in the vicinity saw smoke billowing from the structure and immediately alerted authorities. As the fire intensified, three fire tenders were deployed to control the situation.
Firefighters used water jets to douse the flames from outside the garage. Though they managed to bring the fire partially under control, officials stated that some hotspots remain active. A thick cloud of smoke engulfed the area, making rescue efforts difficult.
