A fire broke out in the engine of the Malda passenger train near Gaisal in Uttar Dinajpur district on Tuesday afternoon. Smoke was first noticed coming from the northern cabin of the rear engine of the DEMU train traveling from Siliguri to Malda.
Passengers quickly evacuated the train following the sighting of smoke. The train was immediately stopped after the guard informed the driver about the fire. Firefighters arrived promptly at the scene and began efforts to extinguish the fire.
The incident also caused the Capital Express to be halted at Gunjaria station as a precautionary measure. Railway officials confirmed that the situation is now under control and no casualties have been reported. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
