A fire broke out in a fourth-floor apartment of a multi-storey residential building in the Shanta Singhmore area under Shibpur police station in Howrah on Tuesday. Thick smoke was seen billowing out of the flat, prompting immediate concern among residents of the building.
Local residents alerted the police and fire brigade after noticing the smoke. Responding swiftly, two fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and began efforts to bring the fire under control. Firefighters worked to prevent the flames from spreading to other flats in the building.
The sudden incident triggered panic among residents, many of whom rushed out of the building and gathered on the street below for safety. Several families evacuated their homes as a precautionary measure while firefighting operations continued.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. No immediate reports of injuries were available at the time of filing this report, and further assessment is underway.
