A devastating fire broke out early Friday morning in a residence located in Ward No. 35, near Bhaktinagar NJP Main Road in Siliguri, reducing most household belongings to ashes. The blaze, suspected to have originated from a short circuit, also destroyed three vehicles parked near the house.
As the fire spread rapidly, locals immediately alerted the fire brigade and electricity department. A fire engine along with officials from the power department reached the spot and worked tirelessly to douse the flames. It took considerable effort to bring the fire under control and prevent further damage to nearby structures.
The homeowner, Biki Roy, expressed deep distress over the incident, stating that apart from material losses, many important documents and identity cards were destroyed in the fire. The financial and emotional toll has left the family devastated.
Authorities are assessing the damage, while residents have urged for regular inspections to prevent such electrical accidents in residential areas.
