Fire breaks out near Atmosphere twin towers

A massive fire broke out in the Topsia area of Kolkata on Tuesday evening, engulfing multiple huts in a densely populated bustee (slum) area near Data Baba Mazaar. The fire reported opposite Atmosphere Twin Towers near Science City, has raised concerns due to its proximity to nearby high-rise buildings.

At least five fire tenders have been rushed to the spot to control the blaze. Eyewitnesses reported thick black smoke visible from far-off locations, with flames rapidly spreading to adjoining houses in the bustee area. Initial reports suggest that many residents may be trapped inside as the fire rages uncontrollably.

The Pragati Maidan Police have reached the site and cordoned off the area to ensure safety and assist in evacuation efforts. Firefighters are battling against time to prevent the flames from spreading further, especially towards the high-rise buildings nearby.

Residents of the area described the incident as terrifying. "The fire started suddenly, and within minutes, it spread to the nearby huts. People were running for safety, and some were trying to save their belongings," said a local resident. Officials are yet to confirm the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, local authorities are working to ensure that those affected are evacuated and given immediate medical assistance.

With flames spreading fast due to the tightly packed nature of the bustee area, firefighting efforts are proving challenging.
