A fire broke out on an oil tanker named MT Marivex carrying 24 Indian seafarers in the Persian Gulf on Monday at around 1:30 pm. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways confirmed that all crew members onboard were safe following the incident. According to the ministry, preliminary information indicated that the vessel reported a fire incident while operating in the region.
The tanker was carrying 24 Indian nationals as part of its crew at the time of the incident. Officials stated that the situation was being closely monitored due to ongoing developments in West Asia. The ministry also confirmed coordination with multiple government agencies to ensure the safety of Indian nationals at sea.
Opesh Kumar Sharma, director in the shipping division of the ministry, said that all Indian vessels and crew operating in the Persian Gulf were under close observation. He added that initial reports confirmed the safety of all Indian seafarers onboard MT Marivex. The ministry further stated that it was coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions abroad, the Indian Navy, and the Ministry of Defence to monitor the situation and provide assistance if required.
