Panic gripped the Srirampur area of Hooghly district late Thursday night after a sudden fire engulfed a wooden house on Delhi Road. The flames spread rapidly due to the flammable structure, sending smoke and fear across the locality. Two fire engines were rushed to the spot and, with the help of local residents, managed to control the blaze after a strenuous effort.
According to initial observations, the fire is suspected to have started due to a short circuit, although the official cause is still under investigation. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported. The fire department confirmed that their swift response prevented the fire from reaching nearby homes, avoiding a larger disaster.
The local administration has inspected the area, and damage assessment is underway. The incident has raised concerns about the power infrastructure and fire safety preparedness in densely packed residential areas like this one.
At present, the situation is stable, but residents remain shaken. Authorities have assured a detailed probe to prevent such incidents in the future.
