Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Panic broke out on Wednesday morning when smoke was seen billowing from the women’s compartment of a Sealdah–Canning local train. The incident occurred shortly after the train passed Bidyadharpur station, prompting passengers to pull the chain and stop the train at Piyali station.
According to railway officials, passengers quickly evacuated the train as smoke spread through the coach. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and technical staff rushed to the spot and began an inspection. Preliminary investigations suggest that the smoke may have been caused by friction in the brake block or an electrical fault.
The situation was brought under control within half an hour, and train services resumed soon after. No injuries were reported, though several passengers experienced distress during the morning rush. Daily commuters described the moment as “terrifying,” as black smoke filled the compartment before the train came to a halt.
Railway authorities assured that there was no major damage and have initiated a detailed technical examination to prevent such incidents in the future.
