A man was rescued in a joint operation by fire services and police after he fell into a well near Netaji More, close to New Jalpaiguri railway station in Siliguri on Wednesday morning. The incident triggered panic in the area after locals heard screams coming from inside the well.
Residents rushed to the spot and attempted to pull the man out but failed, following which the fire department and NJP police were alerted. Emergency personnel reached the scene promptly and launched a coordinated rescue operation.
The man was pulled out in a seriously injured condition and was immediately taken to Siliguri District Hospital for treatment. The circumstances under which he fell into the well remain unclear, and police have initiated efforts to establish his identity.
