Fresh political speculation emerged in West Bengal on Monday after former Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim met Leader of the Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee inside the Assembly. According to reports, rebel Trinamool MLA Sandipan Saha escorted Hakim from the Assembly lobby to Ritabrata Banerjee's chamber, drawing attention amid ongoing discussions about developments within the Trinamool Congress.
According to the report, Firhad Hakim arrived at the Assembly and was seated in the lobby when Sandipan Saha approached him. Within minutes, Saha reportedly accompanied Hakim directly to the office chamber of Ritabrata Banerjee. The meeting was brief, but its timing and participants generated considerable political interest within the Assembly premises.
The development comes days after Firhad Hakim resigned as Mayor of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, a decision that had already triggered political discussion. The meeting also took place amid reports of internal differences within the Trinamool Congress and growing attention on political developments involving dissident leaders in both the state and national political arena.
Neither Firhad Hakim nor Ritabrata Banerjee has publicly commented on the purpose of the meeting. Earlier, after Hakim's resignation as mayor on June 5, Ritabrata Banerjee had stated that he would speak to Firhad Hakim if an opportunity arose. As of Monday evening, no official statement had been issued by any of the leaders involved regarding the discussion or its outcome.
