Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
West Bengal Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim said that Bengali-speaking people are being insulted and linked with Bangladesh, which is creating fear and anger among the public. He stated, “Our language is not Bangladeshi; our language is Bangla. We are an integral part of India.” Hakim said the repeated disrespect towards Bangla speakers was causing unrest. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also raised her voice on the issue and announced that she would take to the streets in protest. She said this is not only a question of language, but also of respect and identity. She drew a comparison to the Bengal partition movement when Rabindranath Tagore had protested on the streets.
