Mayor Firhad Hakim, on Monday, undertook a visit to Tolly Nala in Ward 81 to assess the situation firsthand. Observers noted the mayor actively engaging in the assessment while navigating the canal on a boat. During the visit, he emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness, urging the public not to spread or throw waste into the river.
Addressing environmental concerns, Hakim announced a significant allocation of Rs 30 crore for the dredging of canals from Sonarpur to Tolly Nala. He highlighted the necessity of preserving the water bodies and preventing pollution in the Adi Ganga and surrounding areas.
Mayor Hakim outlined a comprehensive plan to address the issue of polluted water, assuring proper treatment and utilization. He mentioned that the treated water would be employed for washing vehicles and irrigating plants, aligning with sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
Hakim shared CM Mamata Banerjee's vision of providing "Bangla Bari" to residents along the riverbanks. He revealed ongoing efforts by the Urban Development Department.
