CM Mamata pushes Aparajita Bill as TMC MPs urge President’s approval
On Sunday night, the Sonarpur police arrested five Bangladeshi nationals from the Baikunthpur area following a tip-off about their illegal presence in India. The men, all male, had been residing in the area for over a year, living in a rented house. Police confirmed that they had entered India without valid documentation and were working as labourers at a local textile factory. The police are now investigating how they crossed the border and the methods used to facilitate their entry into India.
The five Bangladeshis were living in the rented house on the outskirts of Sonarpur and were reportedly employed in a textile factory in the region. Police sources stated that they had kept to themselves and avoided interaction with the local community, which made it difficult for their activities to be detected. Authorities are interrogating the arrested individuals to understand the full scope of their operation and how long they had been involved in illegal labour activities.
The police have also initiated a search for the landlord of the house where the Bangladeshis had been staying. The landlord is currently absconding, and authorities are conducting a search operation to locate him. The police suspect that the landlord may have been aware of their illegal status. It has been confirmed that the Bangladeshis had been residing in the house for more than a year, but little is known about their interactions with others in the area.
These arrests come just one day after the police detained two other Bangladeshis in Dattapukur, North 24 Parganas. The two individuals had reportedly been using fake identities, and the police are investigating their role in facilitating illegal immigration networks. Authorities continue to investigate these cases, which they believe may be linked to broader illegal immigration operations in the region. The investigation into these incidents is ongoing, with further details expected to emerge soon.
