During the four days of the Puja celebrations, the district reported five fatalities in nine road accidents, raising concerns about safety despite stringent traffic management efforts. Last year, the area experienced a total of 25 accidents, leading to 14 deaths during the festivities, prompting local authorities to implement stricter measures this year.
Traffic Deputy Superintendent Qutubuddin Khan noted that proactive traffic control and enhanced security were prioritized before the festival, contributing to a noticeable reduction in accidents and fatalities compared to previous years. Khan highlighted the importance of early interventions in ensuring safer road conditions.
The accidents occurred in various locations, including Kuchlibari, Mekhliganj, Ghoksadanga, Kotwali, and Pundibari. These incidents underscore the ongoing challenges of maintaining road safety during high-traffic events.
In light of the tragic outcomes, local officials are urging the community to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic regulations. They are also calling for heightened awareness campaigns to educate drivers and pedestrians about road safety measures, aiming to prevent further accidents in future celebrations.
