Five people, including three members of a family, were killed in a devastating road accident in Mau district of Uttar Pradesh late Friday night after their SUV collided head-on with a trailer truck. The victims were returning home after attending a wedding in Ranchi when the incident occurred on a highway under the Doharighat police station area.
According to police officials, the SUV lost control, crossed its lane, and rammed into an oncoming trailer. The impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely mangled, leaving no chance of survival for those inside. A pet dog travelling with the family also died in the crash, highlighting the intensity of the collision.
The deceased have been identified as Vinay Srivastava (53), his wife Archana Srivastava (48), and their son Kritarth Srivastava (27), residents of Gorakhpur district, along with Ravindra Yadav (20) and Purushottam Kumar (28) from Gaya. Police said the group was travelling from Varanasi towards Gorakhpur after the wedding when the accident took place near the highway stretch.
Police teams rushed to the scene soon after receiving information and launched a rescue operation. The bodies were extricated with considerable effort and sent to the district hospital for post-mortem examination. Both vehicles involved in the crash have been seized, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
