Howrah police arrest two men for extorting money from Manglahat traders
A horrific road accident occurred on National Highway 30 near Rigra village in the Nadan Dehat police station area of Maihar district, Madhya Pradesh, around 1 AM. A speeding SUV (MP-13-L-1887) rammed into the rear of a moving truck, causing a devastating impact that completely mangled the front of the vehicle. Five members of the same family died on the spot while trapped inside the wreckage, and one person sustained critical injuries. The group was returning to Maihar after attending a birthday celebration in Amarpatan.
The deceased have been identified as Ankur Patel (age 40), Mridul Patel ((age 32), Vijay Patel ((age 30), Harishankar Patel ((age 25), and Shiva Patel ((age 23), all close relatives from villages in the area, and part of the extended family of the late former MLA Lalji Patel. The sixth passenger, identified as Sanjeev Kumar Patel was relocated to the hospital to render medical aid. According to reports, police and locals had to use significant effort to extricate the victims from the mangled SUV.
Highway patrol and Nadan Dehat police teams reached the spot promptly, with bodies sent to Maihar Civil Hospital for post-mortem. Preliminary investigations point to excessive speed as the primary cause, leading to loss of control. As expected, the incident has triggered mourning in the region, with former minister Ramkhelawan Patel visiting the grieving family. This tragedy comes shortly after a similar fatal crash on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Mandsaur district, which further focusses on ongoing concerns about highway safety in the state.
