Flights, trains supended; Borders sealed by Indian Govt over Bangladesh crisis

Amid unrest in Bangladesh, Air India on Monday suspended flights to and from Dhaka with immediate effect. The airlines have also announced a one-time waiver on rescheduling or cancellation charges for passengers.

Movement of goods through the Petrapole land port on the India-Bangladesh border stopped on Monday, and the train service between Kolkata and Dhaka remained suspended, as the latest spurt of violence in Bangladesh claimed at least 300 lives and forced Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign and flee the country.

The Indo-Bangladesh Maitree Express, the train service that connects Kolkata and Dhaka, has remained suspended since July 19. Amid this, several Bangladeshi nationals, who had come to India earlier for treatments and other reasons, are stuck.

Earlier today, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left Dhaka in a military chopper amid nationwide violence in the country.

Meanwhile, BSF officials said that they are constantly in touch with Border Guard Bangladesh over the current situation. "As of now, the situation is normal at the border. Due to the curfew in Bangladesh, there are restrictions on traffic movement at Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) along India-Bangladesh border, BSF said.
