Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has launched a fierce attack on the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) after the organization allegedly released a massive volume of water, causing floods and misery in several districts. The continuous discharge of water has resulted in rising river levels and the inundation of numerous areas, turning the festive period into one of distress for lakhs of people.
Taking to social media, the Chief Minister vehemently criticized the DVC's action, framing it as a deliberate act of sabotage. “Bijoya Dashami marks the end of Durga Puja. A time for joy, celebration, and new hope. DVC has not allowed the people of Bengal to celebrate the festival peacefully,” Mamata Banerjee wrote in her post, expressing the state’s deep dissatisfaction.
The core of her accusation revolves around the scale and secrecy of the operation. She claimed that the DVC released a staggering 65,000 cusecs of water without providing any prior notification to the state government. She deemed this action nothing less than an "intentional creation of a situation of misery during the festival season."
The Chief Minister did not mince words, labeling the DVC's behavior as "shameful and certainly unacceptable." She stressed the severe risk posed by the sudden, massive discharge, asserting that the DVC's action had put the lives of millions of people at risk by neglecting communication with the state administration, which is responsible for flood management and relief.
Mamata Banerjee firmly differentiated the current flooding from natural disasters, calling it a "man-made disaster created by DVC." By explicitly calling out the organization, she positioned the state government as a protector against what she perceives as politically motivated interference that led to artificial flooding, especially during the crucial festival period.
Concluding her strong statement, the Chief Minister vowed to stand firm against such pressures. "I want to state clearly that I will not allow Bengal to be sacrificed. I will oppose any anti-Bengal conspiracy with all my might. Truth will prevail. Truth will surely triumph against evil forces," she asserted, setting a highly confrontational tone and signaling her intent to escalate the issue politically.
