"Didi badal gayi....": MP Shatabdi Roy speaks up on TMC's internal conflict
Police have arrested Prabir Majumder, popularly known as “Gupi,” a close associate of former Ashoknagar MLA Narayan Goswami, in connection with a case involving allegations of molestation, criminal intimidation, and assault. According to sources, Majumder had been absconding since the change in government and was arrested on Monday shortly after returning to the area.
Authorities stated that the arrest is linked to an earlier case, although multiple allegations have reportedly been made against him over the years. Majumder began his political career with the Congress before joining the Trinamool Congress after 2011. His political influence reportedly increased after Narayan Goswami became the MLA of Ashoknagar, and he later served as a functionary of the Habra-II Panchayat Samiti.
According to allegations cited in the case, Majumder used his political influence to engage in extortion and intimidation activities in the area. Multiple complaints of threats, assault, and intimidation were reportedly raised against him during that period. Residents of Ashoknagar allegedly viewed him as an influential figure whose activities generated widespread concern.
In April last year, allegations emerged regarding the molestation of a minor girl. Majumder was accused of pressuring the victim’s family to withdraw their complaint in exchange for money. It was further alleged that the girl’s mother was assaulted after the family refused. Following the change in government, Majumder reportedly went into hiding before returning to the area a few days ago. Police arrested him on Monday and are expected to produce him before a court.
