BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
Several heavyweight leaders from the Congress and other camps officially joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Sunday. The event, held at the Basirhat Organizational District TMC office, saw the return of former Basirhat South MLA and ex-national footballer Dipendu Biswas to the ruling party. Biswas, who had previously won the seat on a TMC ticket before drifting away, was welcomed back amid cheers from party supporters.
Adding to the Congress's woes, Kader Sardar, a prominent face of the party in the region, also switched his allegiance to the TMC camp. Sardar, who served as a member of the Pradesh Congress and the President of Basirhat Block 1 Congress, brought with him a significant following. This defection included three Congress members from the Pifa Gram Panchayat along with hundreds of active party workers and supporters, effectively weakening the opposition's grassroots base in the district.
The joining spree also included Parthasarathi Basu (Kabak), the former Vice Chairman of the Basirhat Municipality. A veteran in local administration, Basu’s move to the TMC is being viewed as a strategic gain for the ruling party, especially with the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections on the horizon. TMC district leadership stated that the entry of such seasoned leaders significantly bolsters their organizational strength and ensures a more formidable presence in the upcoming electoral battles.
