Former Mokama MLA surrenders amidst gang war firing; Sonu arrested

Former Mokama MLA Anant Singh surrendered in Badh Court on Friday, January 24, in connection with the firing incident between his supporters and the Sonu-Monu gang that took place on January 22, in Nauranga Jalalpur village, Mokama. The altercation, part of an ongoing gang rivalry, involved the exchange of over 100 rounds of ammunition between both factions. During the incident, Singh was specifically targeted but narrowly escaped unharmed.

In response to the incident, Mokama and Badh police had been on high alert, focusing on the arrest of Anant Singh. Despite heavy police deployment in both areas, Singh surrendered voluntarily at the Badh Court without any significant resistance. Prior to his surrender, the police arrested Sonu, a key figure in the Sonu-Monu gang, and another individual named Roshan, reportedly a supporter of Anant Singh. Roshan was apprehended for his involvement in the firing, which followed a dispute over unlocking a house belonging to Mukesh Singh in Nauranga. According to reports, Sonu had locked Mukesh Singh’s house and physically assaulted him, which led to the violent confrontation.

The dispute escalated into a gunfight, with both sides exchanging intense fire, reportedly with around 60-70 rounds fired in the first instance. The police have filed three FIRs at Panchmahla police station against both parties involved, and investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest additional individuals connected to the incident. Authorities are actively conducting raids to capture the remaining suspects.

Following his surrender, Anant Singh is expected to seek anticipatory bail through the court. If his application is rejected, he could be sent to judicial custody, with Beur Jail in Patna being a potential destination. If granted bail, he would be released, and his legal team is expected to present arguments for his release in the coming days. The police have confirmed that further action will be taken based on the court's decision regarding Singh’s custody. The situation remains fluid, with the police maintaining a heightened presence in the area to ensure stability and prevent further violence.
