Pakistan's Supreme Court has approved the post-arrest bail applications of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and vice-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the cipher case, according to Geo TV. Imran Khan was indicted in the cipher case by the special court under the Official Secrets Act 2023 earlier this month after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) declared their jail trial null and void.
During the hearing, Imran Khan asserted that "powerful people" behind the cipher case were being protected, claiming to have initiated an inquiry into the matter during his tenure as prime minister.
He expressed concern over his party leaders facing imprisonment while criticizing the treatment of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, who was brought back to Pakistan. The approval of bail raises questions about whether Imran Khan will be released and how this development will impact the ongoing legal proceedings.
