Disruption in metro services between Dumdum and Dakshineswar; normal services resume after 2 hours
After days of speculation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) officially announced the appointment of former Union Minister Vishnu Deo Sai as the new Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. The 59-year-old leader, a four-time Lok Sabha MP and two-time MLA in undivided Madhya Pradesh, is recognized as one of the most senior tribal figures in the state.
Amit Shah had previously expressed the intention to elevate Sai's stature if the BJP secured victory. In response to his election, Sai expressed his commitment to fulfilling Prime Minister Modi's pre-poll promises, with a primary focus on sanctioning 18 lakh houses under a housing scheme.
Former Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh and outgoing CM Bhupesh Baghel extended their congratulations to Vishnu Deo Sai on his appointment. Singh expressed confidence in Sai's leadership, emphasizing the BJP's commitment to bringing progressive changes to the state.
The BJP, having won 54 seats in the 90-member Assembly, marked a significant turnaround from 2018. The delayed announcement of the new CM led to speculation about potential major changes within the party. The BJP's success in Chhattisgarh is attributed not only to organizational efforts and allegations of corruption against Baghel but also to the introduction of new candidates in 47 constituencies.
