Fraud in tablet funds! Headmasters body calls for enquiry in Bengal scheme

The Advanced Society for Headmasters and Headmistresses (ASFHM) in West Bengal has called for an inquiry into the alleged misuse of funds allocated for purchasing tablets for higher secondary students, particularly in East Medinipur. Concerned over missing funds, ASFHM has asked the state education department to investigate the security of the ‘Banglar Shiksha Portal’ used to distribute these funds under the "Taruner Swapna" scheme.

According to ASFHM, database tampering may have led to changes in student banking details, enabling embezzlement by creating fake student profiles. Allegations have surfaced against headmasters in East Medinipur and other districts like Malda and East Burdwan, claiming they misdirected funds meant for real students.

ASFHM says the principals face undue stress from accusations and demands they be excluded from non-academic duties to avoid future issues.

The union claims it previously reported unauthorized account changes in July 2024 but was dismissed with assurances of a server issue. State officials now say the list of beneficiaries is under review, with promises of legal action where appropriate.
