G20: 'Bharat' replaces 'India' on board during PM Modi's G20 Summit address

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the stage at the G20 Summit 2023 held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, addressing world leaders and ushering in a debate over the country's name displayed on the board in front of him. Notably, the board read 'Bharat' during his address, deviating from the convention of using 'India' in previous G20 Summits.

While addressing the global audience, Prime Minister Modi welcomed the world leaders as the President of the G20. In a tweet posted on the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) official account, PM Modi used the term 'India' to refer to the country. His tweet highlighted the significance of the 21st century, which demands innovative solutions to age-old challenges.

During his speech at the G20 Summit, Prime Minister said "India's G20 presidency has become a symbol of inclusion, of 'sabka saath' both inside and outside the country. This has become people's G20 in India. Crores of Indians are connected to this. In more than 60 cities of the country, more than 200 meetings have taken place. With the sense of 'Sabka Saath', India had proposed that the African Union be granted permanent membership of G20. I believe that all of us agree to this proposal."
