Ganga recedes but stays above danger mark; Kosi, Gandak keep flood threat high in Bihar

Major rivers in Bihar, including the Ganga, Kosi, and Gandak, remain in spate with water levels still above danger or warning marks in several districts. From Buxar to Bhagalpur, the Ganga continues to flow at critical levels. In Buxar, the water level has started to recede but is still above the warning point. The Ganga’s tributaries, Karmanasha and Dharamavati, are also witnessing a gradual decline in levels.

In Patna, the Ganga at Gandhi Ghat was recorded at 49.67 metres on Monday afternoon, exceeding the danger mark of 48.60 metres. At Digha Ghat, the river measured 50.96 metres, above the danger mark of 50.45 metres. In Maner, the Son River remains above danger levels. Officials report that while levels are receding, rivers are still flowing above safe limits in many stretches.

In Bhagalpur, the Ganga’s water level continues above the danger mark, with similar conditions at Kahalgaon. Munger has recorded a slight decline, but the river remains above critical levels. The downstream impact continues to keep waterlogged areas under strain, with steady flows reported in certain stretches.

North Bihar districts are also facing high river levels. In Bagaha, the Gandak is above the warning mark but below the danger point, while in Gopalganj it is flowing above danger level. The Burhi Gandak in Khagaria is above the red mark. In Supaul’s Birpur and Katihar’s Kursela, the Kosi is above the danger mark and remains steady. Monitoring continues across embankments and vulnerable zones as rivers hold at elevated levels.
