Gangasagar Mela devotees to see 7 prominent temples of Bengal at Sagar Island | Know How

This year, the Gangasagar Mela is witnessing a new cultural highlight as seven traditional temples of Bengal have been recreated within the Melagrounds. Pilgrims can now explore 3D models of iconic temples including Jagannath Dham, Kalighat Temple, Dakshineswar Temple, Belur Math, and Mahakal Temple, bringing Bengal’s spiritual heritage to the seaside festival.

The initiative, led by the South 24 Parganas District Administration, aims to provide visitors who face time and travel constraints a chance to experience Bengal’s rich religious culture. Alongside temple displays, the annual Sagar Aarti will continue to draw crowds at Gangasagar beach, maintaining the Mela’s traditional spiritual appeal.

Safety and monitoring have been prioritized, with over 1,200 CCTV cameras installed across the Melagrounds. A mega control room will supervise activities from Babu Ghat to Gangasagar, and drones will also ensure continuous surveillance throughout the event, according to the District Magistrate.

The festival combines cultural display with devotion, offering pilgrims both the spiritual experience of Kapil Muni Temple and a broader view of Bengal’s temple architecture. Officials say the temple installations will allow visitors to engage with the state’s religious and cultural heritage in a single, immersive location.
