Garia club youths allegedly kicked, punched and molested a local woman for protesting against bomb burst near her feet during Kali Puja immersion

In Garia, what should have been a joyful send-off for family guests after the Bhai Phota celebrations turnedbinto a nightmare of violence and humiliation. Yesterday night, as a vibrant Kali Puja immersion procession marching through the streets from a local Khelaghar club under Garia's Netaji Nagar police station area, the air exploded—not just with fireworks, but with unchecked aggression. A young couple, simply walking home after bidding farewell to visitors, when a bomb bursts very close to the woman's feet. Her instinctive protest—"Does anyone burst crackers like this?"—ignited a frenzy among a group of allegedly intoxicated club youths from the immersion procession, who descended upon her like a storm, grabbing her hair, hurling her onto the rough road, and further kicked and punched her that left her face bloodied. This harrowing incident underscores the volatile undercurrents of festival fervor clashing with safety in Kolkata's suburbs.

The assault didn't end there; it escalated into a chilling invasion of their home. As the couple's 14-year-old son is under terror, the attackers allegedly smashed through their door and stormed up to their third-floor flat, where they continued their threats and molestation— allegedly tearing the woman's clothes and touching her inappropriately. From the street below, a hail of stones and bottles rained down towards their flat, turning into a siege. The husband dialed the local Netaji Nagar police station and even also in the emergency number 100, Kolkata Police officers arrived insisting on a medical treatment firstly and then lodge the complaint. At Baghajatin Hospital, the attackers lays in wait, hurling more intimidation until today morning, forcing the family to slink home under a cloud of fear. The complainant, a school teacher, and her businessman husband now live in dread, barricaded indoors, haunted by the possibility of attack again.

This tragedy unfolds against the backdrop of Kali Puja immersion, where despite stringent bans and police advisories, rampant firecracker bursts polluted the air, sickened residents with noise-induced ailments, and pushed environmental limits to the brink. The couple's ordeal highlights a grim pattern: unchecked revelry spilling into brutality, with bystanders paying the price. Kolkata Police have launched an investigation, but for this shaken family, justice feels as fragile as the festival's fleeting lights. Their plea to authorities rings clear—protect the innocent caught in the crossfire of celebration gone awry.
