Rain washes RCB vs KKR match; Defending champions knocked out of playoff race
Just days before the much-awaited inauguration of the Jagannath Temple in Digha, a major mishap struck the preparations. On Saturday night, the gate of light erected at the temple's entrance collapsed due to strong gusty winds. The sudden collapse happened around 10 PM near Nehru Market in Old Digha, causing panic in the area.
At the time of the incident, two totos (e-rickshaws) were passing through the spot. The entire structure came crashing down onto the totos. Fortunately, no casualties or serious injuries have been reported from the scene. Swiftly, local police and administrative teams reached the spot and worked to remove the debris and clear the road.
The Jagannath Temple in Digha, modeled after Odisha’s famed Puri Jagannath Dham, is nearing completion and the entire area has been beautifully decorated ahead of the grand event. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to formally inaugurate the temple on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya, April 30. The ceremonial door opening is scheduled precisely at 3:10 PM as per religious norms, with Puri's Rajesh Daitapati expected to be present.
Before the inauguration, a grand yagya (sacred fire ritual) is set to take place on April 29, drawing religious leaders and dignitaries from across regions. Despite the setback, the organizers and district administration are determined to ensure that the grand opening ceremony proceeds without any further obstacles.
Spread over 22 acres of prime land, construction of the majestic Jagannath Temple began in 2022 with a budget of around ₹250 crore. After the inauguration, the temple will be thrown open to the public, and it is expected to become a major religious and tourist attraction in Digha.
