Rain washes RCB vs KKR match; Defending champions knocked out of playoff race
Indian cricket head coach and former BJP MP Gautam Gambhir has reportedly received chilling death threats from a group claiming to be "ISIS Kashmir." According to police sources, Gambhir approached the Delhi Police on Wednesday after receiving two back-to-back emails containing the ominous message "IKillU" on April 22.
The emails arrived hours apart—one in the afternoon and another in the evening—creating immediate concern for the security of the former cricketer and his family. The messages, brief yet disturbing, prompted Gambhir to demand swift police intervention.
In response, the SHO of Rajinder Nagar Police Station and the DCP of Central Delhi confirmed that Gambhir had submitted a formal request to register a First Information Report (FIR). Authorities are now conducting a full-fledged investigation to trace the origin of the emails and verify their authenticity.
Security around Gambhir’s residence has reportedly been tightened. Delhi Police is said to be coordinating with cybercrime units and intelligence agencies to explore the potential involvement of extremist groups. An internal risk assessment has also been initiated to evaluate the threat level.
This is not the first time Gambhir has received threats of this nature. A similar incident occurred in November 2021 when he was serving as a Member of Parliament. The repetition of such threats has raised concerns about targeted intimidation linked to his political and public statements.
Interestingly, just a day before the threats, Gambhir had strongly condemned the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The attack, which left 26 civilians dead, has been described as one of the most gruesome incidents since the 2019 Pulwama bombing. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gambhir had declared, “Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike.”
