Ghaziabad contemplates renaming to Gajnagar or Harnandi Nagar

A longstanding demand by Hindu outfits, the proposal to rename Ghaziabad is officially on the board meeting agenda. The civic body takes a significant step by considering the renaming of the NCR district, with two potential names - Gajnagar and Harnandi Nagar - in the spotlight.

The proposal to rename the district was tabled by a BJP councilor on Monday and it has been formally included in the agenda of board meeting on Tuesday. The move suggests a shifting sentiment in favor of the renaming, sparking discussions and anticipation among stakeholders.

On the proposal for a new name for the district, Ghaziabad mayor Sunita Dayal acknowledged that she has been receiveing numerous requests on renaming "But this is the first time the matter will be being discussed at the executive level."
