Bengal Police busts Jamtara cyber scam, 46 arrested in statewide crackdown
A severe incident occurred at Nava Nalanda School in South Kolkata on Monday morning when a glass panel fell from the fourth floor, injuring three students as they were entering the school. The accident took place around 7 AM, causing immediate panic among students, parents, and school staff. The injured students were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. One was taken to a private hospital in Dhakuria, another was admitted to MR Bangur Hospital, and the third, who received minor injuries, was sent home after first aid.
The glass panel, along with its frame, reportedly shattered upon hitting the ground, injuring the three students who were directly beneath it. One student suffered a serious head injury, requiring 40 stitches. The students were part of a larger group entering the school at the time of the incident, though it is unclear how the glass panel fell. School officials have not yet provided specific details on the cause of the fall, but sources suggest it could have been related to structural or maintenance issues.
Parents of the injured students have raised concerns regarding the school’s safety protocols, particularly the lack of emergency medical support. Despite the school charging annual maintenance fees, which reportedly include the provision of an ambulance, no ambulance was available at the time of the accident. The absence of immediate medical assistance on-site has led to criticism of the school’s response to the emergency.
Following the incident, several parents gathered outside the school to express their anger and disappointment. They accused the school of negligence, alleging that the glass panel, including its frame, fell due to poor maintenance. Parents also raised concerns about the school’s handling of the situation, noting that a prayer session was being held at the time, and no students were on the fourth floor. As of now, the school has not issued any official statement, and an investigation into the incident is underway to determine its cause and prevent future occurrences.
