GOLD - Mirabai Chanu scripts history, clinches her 3rd straight gold medal at CWG

Star Indian weightlifter and Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu won India's first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, dominating the women's 48kg weightlifting category. The 31-year-old weightlifting icon achieved a total lift of 190kg, comfortably outpacing her competitors to secure the top spot on the podium. Her dominant victory represents India's third overall medal at the 23rd edition of the Commonwealth Games.

Chanu's campaign featured a record-breaking performance during the snatch discipline. Despite a brief setback on her initial attempt at 82kg, she rebounded on her second try before completing a flawless 85kg lift in her third attempt, establishing a new Commonwealth Games record. She then completed a clean and jerk lift of 105kg, sealing her dominance in the event with a Games record total.

With this triumph, Chanu accomplished a historic golden hat-trick, securing her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal following her victories at Gold Coast in 2018 and Birmingham in 2022.
